Cobham Mission Systems Divison takes pride in the caliber of our workforce. Employees bring a wide range of skills to their jobs at Cobham; our job is to continue to refine and enhance those skills throughout the employment relationship.
Employees have a wide variety of training opportunities at Cobham. Beginning with New Employee Orientation and continuing through a wide variety of job-based training opportunities, employees are routinely challenged to grow and develop.
Employees may also take advantage of our tuition reimbursement program. This program enables employees to go back to school, up to and including graduate programs.
Here are a few examples of workplace training...
Compliance Training:
Whether it relates to fire prevention or harassment prevention, Cobham compliance training is designed to follow federal and state laws. Depending on the statute that guides the requirement for ongoing training, Cobham provides employees short courses to make sure that their knowledge and skills stay current.
This training covers a wide variety of topics that include soldering certification, OSHA requirements, Drug Free Workplace, ISO, and regulatory requirements from the Federal Aviation and Food and Drug Administrations, among others.
Job Enhancement Training (JET) Program
First negotiated with our Union in 1993, Cobham offers a “pay for skill” program to Bargaining Unit employees. This program, known as JET, allows employees to progress to higher level jobs, once they have met the training requirements of this program. Classes are available to employees, on-site, after work hours. Classes include basic math, blueprint reading and manufacturing fundamentals. Once employees complete their course requirements, they move on to on-the-job training and are then eligible for promotion.
Skills Training:
From Lean Product Development to software skills training, Cobham routinely provides employees opportunities to improve their skills – particularly as the needs of our business continue to evolve.
Educational Assistance:
All employees are eligible to participate in our tuition reimbursement program and, fortunately, the Quad Cities boasts multiple opportunities for pursuing higher education.
Employees wishing to take advantage of the Educational Assistance program must submit a plan in advance that identifies the courses they want to take and the institution where they plan to get their degree. Once approved, the employee must submit their courses for reimbursement prior to the beginning of the semester. The company reimburses employees upon successful completion of each course.
The following list includes all of the local educational institutions where employees may enroll.
In addition, employees may be interested in taking graduate courses through the Quad Cities Graduate Center.
