Since pilots have had the need to breathe at high altitudes, Carleton Life Support Systems Inc. has been there for them, providing oxygen enriched air and committing to the safety of their mission.
Carleton Life Support Systems is a world leader in the application of air separation technology for aviation applications and in the design and manufacture of miniature sterling cycle cryogenic coolers. Bendix Aviation founded the company in 1951 and the sold the facility to Litton Industries in 1982. Northrop Grumman Corporation acquired Litton Industries in 2001 and then in August 2003, divested the Life Support division, based in Davenport, IA, to Cobham plc, Dorsett, United Kingdom. Carleton Life Support is now part of the Carleton Technologies family of companies owned by Cobham.
Since its inception, Carleton Life Support has continually challenged its employees by encouraging forward thinking and maintaining its leadership role in advanced technology for military and commercial products. Life Support has developed an attention for details and prides itself on its rich history and reputation for excellence. Today, that persistence and innovation has transformed Carleton Life Support into a world-class operation that is on the forefront of superior new technology and continued market leadership.

Life Support Charitable Contributions

Life Support has, for more than a decade, contributed to the Center for Active Seniors (CASI). This holiday is no exception. Since we have been holding Book Fairs, we have used the 10% rebate to the company for CASI. For example, if we have $3,000 in Book Fair sales, the company gets a check for $300. We hold two book fairs a year and while total sales aren’t predictable, Life Support adds a company contribution so that the total contribution to CASI comes to $1000.

Last year, CASI used our contribution to begin their HO gage model railroad (see photos). In ’04, part of our contribution will go to replace their VCR and add a DVD player so that their Day Care participants may enjoy movies once a week.

During the last few years, Life Support has also made charitable contributions to the Domestic Violence Shelter. This year, Life Support employees contributed towels, sheets, comforters and kitchen items, along with hats, gloves and mittens that filled nine large boxes. We also have been collecting toiletries throughout the year for the Shelter (these are those little bottles of things we get when we stay at a hotel). For the first time this year, our meals from the Christmas Party (those that were for employees who made reservations, but didn’t attend) were also given to the shelter. There were also a couple of anonymous cash contributions. In all, these contributions totaled thousands of dollars.

Carleton Life Support is highly regarded as a benefactor to both CASI and the Domestic Violence Shelter. Employees can be proud of their role in helping make life a bit cheerier for those in need at this time of year. Thanks to all of you for your contributions.
