How it works! The following diagrams and descriptions show the stirling cycle in four basic simplified phases. Under normal cryocooler operating conditions, this cycle repeats itself 60 times per second and results in a normal operating temperature typically around 77Kelvin (-195°C which is the temperature of liquid nitrogen) and can achieve temperatures down to about 40 Kelvin (-232°C).
