Since pilots have had the need to breathe at high altitudes, Carleton Life Support Systems Inc. has been there for them, providing oxygen enriched air and committing to the safety of their mission.
Carleton Life Support Systems is a world leader in the application of air separation technology for aviation applications and in the design and manufacture of miniature sterling cycle cryogenic coolers. Bendix Aviation founded the company in 1951 and the sold the facility to Litton Industries in 1982. Northrop Grumman Corporation acquired Litton Industries in 2001 and then in August 2003, divested the Life Support division, based in Davenport, IA, to Cobham plc, Dorsett, United Kingdom. Carleton Life Support is now part of the Carleton Technologies family of companies owned by Cobham.

Life Support has developed an attention for details and prides itself on its rich history and reputation for excellence. Today, that persistence and innovation has transformed Carleton Life Support into a world-class operation that is on the forefront of superior new technology and continued market leadership.

OC1165 High Pressure Oxygen Concentration System

The OC1165 High Pressure Oxygen Concentration System was designed to supply aviator and medical (USP93) grade oxygen for aircrew and/or patient care requirements. This unit is the next generation concentrator beyond CLSS's OC1093 concentrator that incorporates CLSS's rapid-cycle pressure-swing-adsorption process, which uses two molecular sieve filled beds to generate oxygen enriched breathing gas onboard the aircraft. This system also contains air-driven booster pumps, which charge aircraft oxygen systems to 450 psig. CLSS advanced technology features a pneumatically driven slide valve, a booster pump controller and electronic built-in test, which are an integral part of the unit. This concentrator system is being qualified and installed in the HH-60L/M Medical Evacuation helicopter. It is the next generation solution for retrofit on the C-130 and fighter aircraft requiring high-pressure oxygen.

Features:

  • MTBF exceeding 20,000 flight hours.
  • Provides continuous oxygen supply at maximum rates for critical patients (MedEvac) and crew (fighter/cargo) applications.
  • 55 psi system allows for interface with civilian medical equipment (ventilators, anesthesia devices).
  • Built-in solid state oxygen monitor does not require calibration with reference gas.
  • Built-in test (BIT) capability eliminates O-level support equipment.
  • Optional self-rechargeable back up oxygen system on aircraft.
